Some words to live by

These James Taylor lyrics hold a great message that would help solve a lot of problems in the world.

Walk down that lonesome road all by yourself
Dont turn your head back over your shoulder
And only stop to rest yourself when the silver moon
Is shining high above the trees

If I had stopped to listen once or twice
If I had closed my mouth and opened my eyes
If I had cooled my head and warmed my heart
Id not be on this road tonight

Carry on

Never mind feeling sorry for yourself
It doesnt save you from your troubled mind

Walk down that lonesome road all by yourself
Dont turn your head back over your shoulder
And only stop to rest yourself when the silver moon
Is shining high above the trees

Here is the last idea that I have recorded. I was thinking about our little Maggie when I made this up so it is called “Holding Maggie Mae.” Carlee already had it on here blog a few months back but I need to have it here on mine so here it is.

Holding Maggie Mae

I have been having a hard time with blogging lately. I usually do it on Sundays but for some reason I have been busy lately on Sundays. For one thing I am usually the head cheff on Sunday. Kirsten and Chrissy make me fix them gourmet breakfasts such as biscuits and gravy and then I had to make them meat loaf and cheese potatoes for dinner so I have had to put a lot of kitchen time in today.

Blogging takes time

Recently, I have not had much time for blogging.  I have been sick with a horrible flu and very busy with all my projects and  stuff going on.  I hope next week will afford more time for something but for now I am doing other stuff so see you later.

When you are laid up for a few days, you are quickly reminded how little good there is to watch on TV, even with satellite. I watched Andy Griffith and The Beverly Hillbillies and a few Gun Smoke and Bonanza episodes. What I enjoyed the most was The Food Network and “Grill Week.” I learned quite a lot about cooking ribs. Pork baby back ribs are my favorite meat. One thing mentioned by several accomplished bbq experts is that you have to practice. While I was at Lee’s Market on Friday I found an inexpensive rack of ribs and picked up some mesquite wood chips and pork seasoning rub. Yesterday I had my first try of slow cooking ribs on the grill. I made a few mistakes at first with the coals but I finally got them regulated to what I thought was good and let my meat cook. 4 hours later I took the rack off the grill. The meat was falling off the bone. The meat isn’t suppose to fall off because that means it is over done if you are in competition. For me, falling off the bone is perfect. I was very pleased at my first try with this method. I think the seasoning could be better but that will take time to learn what is really good and how much to use. As for now, I am satisfied that I can indeed slow cook on the grill with success! I am anxious to do it again when I can cook for a group of people.

Here is another number. I call it “Which Way to Go” because when I was learning it, I had a few options with where I could take chord progressions and I would think to myself “which way should I go with this? I actually like playing this song better than most of the others.

Which Way to Go

On Thursday, I went in to get my deviated septum straightened.  My hope is that with my nose straight on the inside, like it should be, I will have less congestion and drainage that have bothered me for several years.  At least that is what the Dr. says should happen.  I think I was about 12 years old when it happened.  I was playing basketball after the chores were done with my dad, my brother Kevan and an older boy named Ron Tolman.  I don’t know why he was there for sure.   I use to work for him hauling hay and maybe that is why he was there.  If that is the case I was probably 14 instead of 12 but I guess that doesn’t matter.  Anyway, while going for a rebound, my nose met Ronnie’s elbow.  My dad looked at me and said, come on, we better go to the doctor.  My nose was flat against my cheek.  Dr Perkes did the best he could to straighten it with his “crowbar.”  The next day on the school bus someone bumped my nose and I had to go back to the dr. but he said he didn’t dare mess with it anymore so there it stayed.  It hasn’t been crooked on the outside other than a big bump but I guess it has been pretty messed up inside for all this time.  As I was being prepared for the surgery on Thursday, I was extremely nervous.  I have had a few surgeries but none affected me like this did.  I was just plain scared!  It all went well, however, and I have been laying around for a few days.  I will go back to work on Wednesday and hopefully in a short time I will be better than new.  I really hope that this will help me to sing better again and maybe without coughing so much when ever I try.  It really hasn’t been as bad as I imagined and I am glad it is over.

I am including another guitar number called “Insomnia.” I was trying to be creative and play something different than I usually do and this just kind of came out.  After I had it down I thought that it was just how I feel when I have those nights that sleep never really comes.  Thankfully that doesn’t happen to me a lot but it use to get me a couple of times a month.  Just another idea on my guitar!

Slightly Copied

 Slightly Copied

This song has slight elements of a couple of popular songs from the past that were always fun to play.  I don’t think I will go into detail except to say that I don’t think it is too bad to take a short chord progression from a song and add to it to make your own!

I think my blog is pretty lame and maybe a waste of time.  I am probably not the real blogging type.  I do, however, plan on doing a major political blog sometime before the elections this fall that will provide clear reasoning for determining which philosophies are good and which are BAD!  Maybe that will generate some interest

This is named “Try Again” because I didn’t like what I was doing with it so I said to myself, “try again and maybe something better will come out.” I think this is a weak effort but it takes up a spot in my repertoire! Now I have to go and make a potato salad for tonight. I wish I hadn’t forgot to buy an onion.

Try Again

Old Song

I have played this chord progression for a long time so when it came time to give it a name I just called it “Old Song” because compared to most of the stuff I have been playing it is quite old. Just a reminder, this is just another idea without any delusions that it is anything significant, just fun for me to play. Using these little numbers is an easy way for me to blog. I don’t have to think much!

Old Song

I am determined to not let the lack of notoriety or response keep me from posting all of my little quirky guitar melodies.  I realize they probably don’t mean much to others but at least I am getting them out there if some one has any interest at all in what I do.  I really can play for hours just letting my guitar ramble on and on.  I use to drive Kirsten crazy but she has become much more tolerant in the last few years.  I try to engage in conversation on occasion but I would usually rather let some one else do the talking while I doodle around on the guitar.  In an attempt to play something with a Celtic flare I came up with this little number.  I am not sure if it really fits that genre or not so that is why I call it Celtic Attempt!

Runnin’ Around

Runnin’ Around

I think it was about a year ago that while everyone was over and the grandchildren were running all over the place, being wild, I  started playing this little melody.  It is just for fun and I didn’t play it very well on the recording but that really doesn’t matter does it?
